A browser game will not load: what to check

Fix Radiant Optimizer Games startup problems by checking the failing stage: link access, downloads, graphics or input. Use observed errors and alternatives.

Identify whether the failure is the address, resource download, graphics, input or server connection. Follow the symptom instead of repeatedly refreshing every loading screen.

Check the exact address and read the browser's error text. A certificate warning is different from an HTTP access refusal or a domain that no longer resolves. Desktop Chrome confirmed a hostname certificate mismatch at the supplied play.freeciv.org address and an expired certificate at hextris.io. The Freeciv listing now uses WebCiv, an alternative operator whose single-player setup screen was reached; a game was not started. Agar.io returned HTTP 403 to our raw request, but a browser follow-up opened its guest lobby with a Play button. This is why a request failure alone is insufficient to declare a game unavailable.

Unresolved projects are retained in the full directory's collapsed status archive, with their check notes and no launch links. We do not recommend bypassing HTTPS or browser verification. If a familiar link opens unrelated content, the browser-port tracker records address changes and game-name mismatches found during the check.

Progress is slow or appears stuck

Look for a download size, changing percentage or current preparation stage. The BO1 Kino screen showed a 330.5 MB first download. The Skate project showed connecting, game data, engine and startup stages, which help identify where the process stopped. A moving indicator is evidence that something is being retrieved; a completed indicator is not proof that controls work. Keep the tab open while progress is advancing. If an error appears, preserve its wording before reloading. Trying another connection can help distinguish a local access issue, but do not change multiple settings at once.

The page loads but the canvas stays blank

A landing page is ordinary web content; the game may also need WebGL, workers and further assets. Check whether the project has a visible error panel or documented requirements. MDN's WebGL guidance describes the browser graphics API, but does not establish a project's device compatibility. Compare the same project in another current desktop browser if practical. Our QuakeWorld attempt remained on a loading spinner after opening the client. That evidence is recorded as inconclusive rather than a guaranteed working game or a global outage.

The image renders but input does not work

Click the game canvas and read any request for mouse access. Our Kino test reached Click to Start, then reported a pointer-lock restriction in the automated browser environment. This points to an input-permission limitation in that session; it does not establish that the port is universally unplayable. MDN's Pointer Lock API explains the mechanism. A touch screen is not a substitute for confirmed mouse-look controls. For keyboard input, a small project such as 2048 can help establish that key events reach the game, although it cannot test a shooter's pointer-lock requirement.

Solo works but multiplayer does not

Treat multiplayer as a separate test. A rendered room screen or online-player counter does not confirm that two participants can join and interact. The DOOM source page exposes both solo and multiplayer choices, but our completed interaction check was solo only. Projects can rely on server services that are independent of their local rendering. Note the room or connection error without including passwords or private account details. We do not promise live server uptime from a source-page response.

Report the result or choose a better fit

A useful report contains the project name and URL, browser version, input device, visible error and stage reached. Contact details are on About. The directory lets you retain your preferred genre while removing a game-file requirement or selecting a different verification level. Recently opened is merely your local record of outgoing clicks; it should not be mistaken for a list of successfully played games. Use the startup checklist when trying your next project.
